Always looking forward to Fridays and the weekend to “unplug”?
It’s okay if you have forgot…because it may have been many years since you have really dreamed…
I can tell you, there is a different type of life for you…
If you really want it.
I can share hundreds of examples of friends & clients over the years…
in this case I’ll share my own.
The only difference between the past 4 days of my life…
Has been whether or not my children are there are greet me when I walk up from my office at 10am.
My wife, if she’s not out having fun with her Mom, who now lives with us in Colorado…
Is chilling out reading, going to stores, or painting – one of her favorite hobbies.
She hasn’t had to work a job for about a decade.
and like growing up, I’m grateful that the mother of my children doesn’t have to work and is there for her children…
but there’s another difference…
and here’s where it gets weird and amazing…
the father of my children is also always there – ME!
In the increasingly rare occasion that one of the parent’s gets to be at home for the children…
Most of the time the other parent is off slaving at a high paying job for many hours/week.
Well – while I worked who knows how many hours this week – because I LOVE serving others and creating new possibilities for myself & others…
I was here for ALL of my children’s occasions…
I was here when my wife wasn’t feeling good and one of our kids needed picked up from school…
I was here to take the kids into school…
I was here for the father-daughter dance…
I was here so that my wife could attend the mother-son dance…
I got my workouts in…
I ate healthy food…
I planned my next trip…
I played video games with my children, discussed books & life, helped them with their homework, and tucked them in at night – AND woke them up while we spent quality time.
I went on a movie date with my wife…on a Wednesday, at 10:00am…
where almost no one else was in the theater.
(which is also when we go to the mall, shopping, Dave & Busters…all completely UNcrowded…while the rest of the world does something called “slaving at a job and being told how many hours they need to work and ask permission to see their family.”)
I meditated – changed lives – made money – and thoroughly enjoyed my week…
all without having to ask a boss if I could have time off or be a slave to a “business” owning me…
and all REGARDLESS of whether it was Tuesday, Friday, or Sunday…
there has been no difference in my mind.
(other than again – whether my children were off at school…or there when I walked up at 10am every day.)
