Everything in life is a learning experience…

Some show up as brilliant flashes of genius

while others… painful lessons.

I want share some pain I just caused myself… so that you can use it as your own flash of genius.

(isn’t is cool how you can use other’s lessons for your own benefit?  It’s called modeling.)

So here’s what happened…

You may have heard that “the money is in the list”.

This is referring to creating and owning your own “email subscriber list”.

It’s a collection of people who have given you their names & email addresses… and have given you permission to email them.

Just like you’re reading this email now… you are a subscriber on my list…

although for an unfortunate 137 others this morning…

they are not receiving this same message… and it wasn’t even their fault!

I was going through my list today, and performing one of the dozens of activities of properly maintaining a subscriber list…

I was removing people who had unsubscribed.

I was doing this in groups of 100 at a time (long story)…

and after running through quite a few of them…

I got into a routine.

Well… this routine isn’t etched into my brain as well as it needed to be…

because I took a couple of swipes at one of my most important subscriber lists…

and deleted 137 subscribed members!

What this means is… that they did want emails from me… but I got trigger happy and didn’t realize I had chosen “subscribed” members vs. “unsubscribed” members.

Even more painful… is knowing these particular people are some of my most responsive members over the years!

(they had indicated they wanted “more updates” as opposed to “normal updates” or “less updates”)

and in an instant… 137 of them are now deleted, forever.

Years ago, I would be beating myself up at this point…

but there’s a bigger picture to think about as well.

1st – Before going in and deleting a few thousand who had unsubscribed…

(I was a little behind in doing this particular list maintenance)

I created a backup of everything.

So I do have the emails… it’s just a huge pain to get them “added back into” the list. (it’s a long process in just adding names into a list… the email providers are very careful when the subscriber didn’t add themselves… which these ones all did… but it no longer appears that way)
😉

Lesson 1: Keep An Open Mind.  Always do backups and even when you forget to… there’s usually (not always) a way to recover data!

2nd – There’s a chance that these people will still see my messages…

because they are on another list, or subscribed to my YouTube channel, to my blog updates, connected to me on Facebook, or maybe even the 2 people still around who use Twitter…

Lesson 2: Flexibility Is Important.  There is more than 1 way to connect with people, and you always have more than 1 “list”.

3rd – While these are some of my more loyal subscribers… there’s still 16,226 others that are still “cool” with receiving my emails.

(and 16,226 people who survived my overly ambitious fingers…)

Lesson 3: Perspective Matters!  Step back and see the bigger picture…

4th – My list is now ~5,500 “lighter”… and it’s always good to kill dead weight and close “open loops”!

The amount precious creative energy, finances, emotional bandwidth, and time you have… are among your most limited resources.

Consistently keep things clean to expand in all of the above areas.

Lesson 4: Destroy Open Loops.  These energy/time zappers steal far more productivity & success than most people realize.

To summarize today’s post… you should always be looking to learn lessons

in every direction around you!

Because modeling other people’s “successes” AND learning from their “failures” is one of the biggest shortcut you can ever take!

In fact, I’ll go so far as to say… if you implement this one skill of “modeling”… it alone can put you on track to come join myself and other top performers in the top 1%.

and I don’t mean that in an arrogant manner…

I used to work a job, have to ask to see my family, and worry about silly things like “making sure enough money is in the bank account to _______”.

and it’s those types of thoughts above that would ripple impact and have me “down” about killing 137 people off of my email list…

but because I’ve modeled others that are more successful than me… the people that had the life, finances, and attitudes that I wanted…

I now have a completely different mindset

which has created the completely different life from the one I used to be… trapped in.

Change your mind -> change your life!

and based on the above lessons on just a silly little finger slip…

imagine the stuff I teach to my inner circle members on a daily basis!

If you’re now ready to lock arms with me, and model myself and other 7-9 figure earners that I’ll introduce you to…

Then come check this out… because this is the only way to work with me…

and you’ll experience that the view from the inner circle is so much more deep & rewarding than the view from the outside!

😉

PS – If you’re not receiving value from my emails, please go to the bottom of this email and click “unsubscribe”… it’ll save me some time down the road!

(and it may even save others from my deadly “slip of the finger” mistakes.)
😉

PPS – Don’t forget to play more, laugh more, love more, and be even more grateful…

The world needs you to step up into even more of your best self…

and I believe in YOU!
